Evelyn M. Chaves, 95, of Little Compton passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on Saturday, May 27, 2023.
Born in the same home in which she passed, Evelyn was the daughter of the late Antone J. and Maria J. Monteiro Chaves. She was the last surviving of 14 siblings and lived in Little Compton her whole life.
Evelyn enjoyed her work as a clerk for the US Postal Service and retired in 1988. She also worked at J.F. Wilbur School and Compton Construction Company. Evelyn especially enjoyed time with her family and gardening.
Evelyn was the sister of the late Mary Gloria, Gladys, Joseph, Georgianna “Tina” Flores, Antone “Tony” Jr, Albert, Annie C. Bettencourt, Lewis, James “Jimmy”, George, Rosemarie, Rosalie C. Souza and Patricia C. Smith. She is survived by many nieces and nephews in addition to great nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, June 10, at 10am, St. Catherine of Siena Church, 74 Simmons Road, Little Compton. Interment immediately following at Our Lady of Fatima Cemetery, South of Commons Road. Visiting hours are omitted.
The family would like to thank all of Evelyn’s many caregivers whose support allowed her to remain in “her happy place”, her home.
