Jane Isherwood Lemos, 75, of Little Compton passed away on May 30, 2025 after a long illness. Born in Baltimore, she was the daughter of Charles Preston Isherwood and Jean DurfeeIsherwood, formerly of Fall River.
Janie, as she liked to be known, lived in Little Compton many years and was a former owner and operator of Wilbur’s General Store. Janie was educated as a librarian and served at the Essex Library in Tiverton for many years prior. There she was a gifted storyteller, regaling children and adults alike with her animated storytelling. She was also a talented quilter, floral arranger, and a kind and generous lady who was quick to help those in need.
Janie is survived by her son, Jesse P. Lemos and his wife Mylissa of Nashville, TN, her long-time caregiver and special friend, Michael Giguerre of Little Compton, her aunt, Louise Durfee of Tiverton, her sister-in-law Deborah Isherwood of Bristol, several cousins and dear lifelong friends, and her dogs, CharlieGirl and Jonesy. She was predeceased by her parents and brothers Mark and David.
The family kindly invites relatives and friends to attend a graveside service for Janie in Union Cemetery Little Comptonon Saturday, July 26, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Meeting Street School or Save the Bay, Janie’s favorite charities.
