Obituary

Known by many as Annie, she was known by her mother Regina (Couturier) Ballard, father Francois Ballard, and siblings Robert, Barbara, Louise, Beatrice and Arthur (predeceased by all), as Roseanna. She was born and resided in Fall River until, at the age of 10 she and her family moved into Tiverton where her father built their family a home “in the country”. Anne lived there until, at the age of 21, she married James Manchester, with whom she built a home and raised 3 daughters, in Little Compton, RI: Kathleen Marks of Fall River, MA, Nancy Ferland of Carlton, GA and Tammie Shurtleff of Westport, MA. Anne resided in Little Compton for 43 years and moved to Tiverton in 2004 and then on to Westport in 2016.

Anne  was a talented seamstress and enjoyed making all the clothing for her 3 small girls and creating quilts for all to enjoy. Her creativity was boundless. She was a 4-H leader, volunteered for the United Congregational Church and took part in many activities with the town of Little Compton. She and Jim opened an antique shop in 1971, “Jim and Ann’s tiques”, at their Amesbury Lane address. Anne enjoyed cooking and was an avid gardener, reader and worked as assistant librarian in the Little Compton Brownell Free Public Library for 25 years, at which time she retired in 1995. But most of all, Anne LOVED TO DANCE!!! Dancing was her passion and she spent many hours scorching the floors.

Anne leaves behind her 3 daughters, her 4 grandsons: Adam Rapoza, Jeremy Mathewson, Jakob Shurtleff and Aaron Thomas, as well as 4 great granddaughters and 2 great grandsons.

A special thank you to Tiffany from South Coast Hospice, Lynn from Bristol Elder Services and Jodi and Jen for all their loving care. Mom’s dignity was always their priority. Thank you Susan for all your prayers. She is dancing with God.

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, June 11,2023, 1:30 P.M. at FERN ACRES FUNERAL HOME, with a reception IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING at the home of Tammie Shurtleff.
