Obituary

Roy F. Bonner, 94, of Little Compton, passed away at St Anne’s Hospital in Fall
River on Sunday 6/27, after a short illness.

Roy was the beloved husband of Janet Bonner for nearly 67 years.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the only child of Francis and Imelda (Roy) Bonner.
In his early years during the Great Depression, he was cared for by his maternal
grandmother in Fall River, and entered school speaking only French. When things
improved, he returned to Brooklyn and graduated from Erasmus Hall High School.
A US Navy Veteran, he enlisted at age 17 and served aboard ships in the North
Atlantic protecting supply convoys in the late years of World War II.
After his honorable discharge, he studied chemistry at St Francis College in
Brooklyn.

Mr. Bonner worked for IBM Corp for over 30 years and was on the adjunct faculty
at the Brown University School of Engineering in Providence, RI for over 10 years
before retiring.

Roy taught himself to ski in his 30’s, and earned his pilot’s license in his 40’s. He
enjoyed flying his plane around the northeast US and working in his wood shop.
He traveled extensively around the world, both for business and with his family.
Mr. Bonner was a devout Catholic and always active in his local parish. He was
inducted as a Knight of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre at the Cathedral of the
Holy Cross in Boston in 1998.

Roy is survived by his wife Janet, sons James and wife Michele of East Greenwich,
Peter of Medford, OR, and daughter Peggy Mulvey and husband Jim of Warwick,
and four grandchildren, Alex, Brendan, Sam, and Lauren.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday July 1, 2021, from 4 – 7PM, at Fern Acres
Funeral Home, 72 Willow Ave., Little Compton, RI. The funeral will be held at 9AM
Friday July 2, 2021, from Fern Acres Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian
Burial at 10AM at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 74 Simmons Road, Little
Compton. Interment with military honors immediately following at Our Lady of
Fatima Cemetery, South of Commons Road, Little Compton.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital (stjude.org), 501 St.
Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or Judicial Watch (judicialwatch.org), PO Box
96234, Washington, DC 20090, would be appreciated.
