William J. Hagan, 88, of Bristol, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully at the Rhode Island Veterans Home, December 26,2023.
Bill, an Air Force Veteran of the Korean War era, lived a long and storied life. He was born in Providence, RI, on July 22, 1935, to the late Catherine(Fitzgerald) Hagan and the late James Hagan, and grew up in the Fruit Hill neighborhood, the fifth of seven children.
He attended high school at The Woodstock Academy in Vermont. He continued his education at the University of Rhode Island but left when offered his dream job in Washington D.C. as executive assistant for Congressman Bob Tiernan. He continued his political career running the Democratic Study Group. He finished his career at Bally’s Twin River Lincoln.
A New York Times crossword puzzle fanatic, Bill also loved his Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. But there was nothing he liked better than eating Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and reading the New York Times. He also enjoyed traveling, was devoted to his mother, and generous to his nieces and nephews.
Bill was a thoughtful, generous, and kind man who would do anything for his loved ones. He is survived by his brother John Hagan(Jean) and his sister Jane Barber. He was predeceased by James Hagan, Catherine Hagan, Sara Brady(John) and Mary Hewitt(Richard). He also has 15 nephews and 7 nieces.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the Rhode Island Veterans Home, 480 Metacom Avenue, Bristol, RI . Military honors will immediately follow the mass.
